Something MASSIVE is in store for Schlitterbahn Galveston Island this summer.

First it was the longest river ride, then the longest torrent (action) river ride, then the tallest waterslide. Now, Schlitterbahn is building the world’s tallest water coaster and putting it in the award-winning Schlitterbahn Waterpark on Galveston Island!

Called MASSIV, the German word for massive, the water coaster will be in place in time for the waterpark’s 10th Anniversary celebration this summer. Schlitterbahn Galveston Island is home to more thrill rides than any other Schlitterbahn Waterpark, making it the perfect home for this record-breaking ride.

As insiders to everything Schlitterbahn, we wanted to give you some facts on MASSIV and why we are so excited to welcome it to our family of waterparks!

MASSIV is going to be the biggest of it’s kind and will use the patented Master Blaster technology that is used in our blasters to help riders go uphill. One to two riders will be able to share the experience in a double tube as they go through a never-before-done triple-drop which will end in a landing pool.

Wait, what’s a water coaster?

A water coaster is a water ride that has multiple uphill sections, uses a ride vehicle (boat, tube, or raft), and has other ride elements (spirals, fish ladders, water screens, etc.) to deliver a thrilling and fun filled ride. (BTW, here is an infographic on the types of waterslides).

What’s the ride going to look like?

Sticking to tradition with our record-breaking attractions, MASSIV will be green, white and red with translucent sections. (Yep, we’re going to have 7 green translucent segments so you can get a glance of the park as you move through the ride!)

Here are some photos of our fiberglass parts getting ready to be shipped to Galveston!

How long is it going to be?

The ride is two and a half football fields long (approximately 926 feet), making it twice the length of any other waterslide at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island.

Is there an elevator?

No elevator, no conveyor. Riders will carry a tube to the top of the 123 stairs.
If you decided that you didn’t want to ride MASSIV, you’d have to walk back down and complete a walk of 246 steps. Woo hoo!

Is this a ride the whole family can enjoy? Or just adrenaline junkies?

MASSIV is a shared experience ride, which gives it much wider appeal. People who would never ride something this big, will ride with a friend or family member. But it may be too massive for some folks.

That’s all we can reveal for now, but make sure to check out our project updates on MASSIV! We’ll be updating our blog with new information and we have a big announcement to make later on this Spring – so make sure to subscribe to our blog newsletter!
