Recently our staff here has posted several great music lists, and as much fun as many of the songs are, I found I couldn’t quite identify.
Around here, I’m SchlitterMom. I still have a young one (and a teen) running around, and the playlist our teams have come up with, well, they aren’t exactly younger kid fare.
So working with my youngest daughter, we came up with our own Spotify playlist that covers the eclectic mix of little kid songs we love to listen to in our car. No Radio Disney here (not that there’s anything wrong with that, we just can’t take another rendition of “Do you want to build a Snowman” unless it’s this hilarious Google translate parody).
We have four main bands we love in our Bahn Kid Music Mix. First is Trout Fishing in America. This hilarious duo does grown-up music too, but their kid songs are our faves on the list. Mine! is a particular favorite (any parent of toddlers will appreciate it) and 18 Wheels on a Big Rig taught me and my daughters to count to 18 in roman numerals.
The other band of note is They Might Be Giants (known to hipper people than me as TMBG). Most people who have heard of this band know it as an alternative rock band (Istanbul anyone?), but they have a really fun kids album called No! My favorite kids song on the album is Clap Your Hands…
Sandra Boynton books were always favorites with our kids when they were little, and when we found out she worked with Michael Ford on putting them to music, we were hooked. Tickle Time is our favorite!
And of course, Joe McDermott and Dan Zanes are a blast too! Give this playlist a listen and before you know it the miles will zoom by and you’ll be hopping into your tube, holding on to the moments that really matter.
And if you have a song or two you would add, let us know!
